Igniting safety and extinguishing risks

March 08, 2024

March is here, and with it comes an important reminder to stay safe. This month serves as a timely call to action, mobilizing individuals and communities to give priority to taking preventive and mitigating measures against the destructive effects of fire.

Every year, fires destroy houses, businesses, and forests, resulting in irreversible property damage and, most tragically, the loss of innocent lives. While it's not always possible to completely prevent fires, collaborative efforts in education, preparedness, and preventative measures greatly lower the dangers associated with them. In this blog, we will tackle some important tips to guarantee safety at home.

  1. Kitchen safety

Cooking in the kitchen is where most home fires start, so be careful when doing so. Following safe cooking practices will help keep you and your family safe, whether you're preparing a tiny snack or a large family feast.
  2. Install smoke detectors

Ensuring that your smoke detectors are properly installed is one of the first and most crucial steps towards safety. To prevent false alerts when cooking, it is recommended that smoke detectors be installed at least 10 feet away from a cooking appliance. Moreover, It is best to test and replace the alarm's batteries regularly, or at least once a year, as a broken alarm is worse than none at all.
  3. Store flammable items properly

It only takes minutes for flammable items to ignite and cause a house fire. Hence, it is advised to store flammables in appropriate containers and areas to reduce this danger. Additionally, you should never store your flammables in extreme temperatures, like direct sunlight, or open flames.
  4. Keep matches and lighters away from children

Keeping flammable items out of the reach of children is just as crucial as storing them properly. Children frequently play with objects without thinking about the possible outcomes. They also think flames are fascinating and connect them to blowing out birthday candles or fireworks. As such, it's critical to teach kids that matches and lighters are not games and that fire is a deadly object.
  5. Create an escape plan and be prepared

The best route is usually the normal way in and out. However, in case the location of the fire restricts you from easily getting out, it is crucial to have a backup plan. If you live in a two-story home, you should consider whether you will need a portable ladder to escape through a window, roof, or balcony.

Following these home fire safety tips and remaining vigilant can reduce the risk of fires and keep your home and loved ones safe. Equally important is an insurance plan that offers coverage for physical loss or damage brought on by lightning and fire. In the event of an uncontrolled disaster, be assured that Paramount's fire insurance will protect your property's value. For more information, visit https://plgic.ph/FireandAlliedPerils

Paramount Life takes the Stand to Kick Off 2021

February 5, 2021

As Paramount warms up to the better normal, the Life Insurance Division conducted a kickoff to rally its sales team last February 4, 2021, via zoom. Gathered in celebration with an American football motif and a focus on the DIFFERENCE that makes the Company the BETTER choice for all stakeholders elicited the participants to commit support of each other and to protect more Filipino families.

The program officially closed the year 2020 by honoring a special set of agents and managers who performed well at the last quarter of the year. It was a campaign in search of DISRUPTORS, salesforce members who would go against the odds of the pandemic, economic slowdown, and movement restrictions. The Disruptors recognized in the production category were LifePlanning Partner Henry Laural and Insurance Associate Grace Artiza while in the agency leaders category, Unit Manager Alfeo Rufo and Regional Manager for Visayas Sean Delos Reyes. A special moment was also given to Lifetime MDRT member, Executive LifePlanning Partner Ted Tinsay for consistently qualifying in the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT).

The division introduced the new name for its salesforce, Agency Business Life Division (ABLD). Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. George Alcantara also presented his team’s game plan for 2021. The solid line-up is composed of his ball carriers - Regional Managers, Branch Managers, Agency Directors, Unit Managers, Insurance Associates, and Life Planning Partners and ball protectors, the very supportive offensive line up composed of various home office departments who are willing and able to try all ways, always to deliver the highest quality of service to policyholders. On the other hand, the defense lineup is composed of Agency Business Life Division directors, managers, and agents to help keep up with the ever-changing insurance industry. The established special teams are (1) Knowledge Management Group (KMG) to ensure that learning is continuous for all (2) Product Innovation Partners (PIP) to ensure that products to be developed are responsive to the needs of the market and (3) Social Media Side (SMS) to increase the Paramount’s brand presence and reach in the digital world. Bohol - Golden Peak Branch Manager Jennifer Echavez as an agency leader and Life Planning Partner Ted Tinsay as an insurance advisor shared experiences and best practices to inspire the ABLD team.

Four keywords that drove the event and the ABLD playbook - withstand, understand, standout and standard. Hence, The Stand is coined as the name of the event. Withstanding challenges, understanding the market to continuously be relevant, standout over the competition with the unique Paramount standards. President and COO, Mr. George Tiu, and CEO and Chairman, Mr. Patrick Go, also graced the event with messages of assurance that Paramount is equipped to weather challenges along the way and is adept with the changing times. The event closed with the announcement of the new recognition criteria in all levels of the agency and putting the next recognition trip destination to a vote.

Tempering an Act of Nature

November 12, 2020

Typhoons Quinta, Rolly, Siony and Ullyses that just visited the country led to the devastation of a great part of Luzon. Heavy rains have caused floods which resulted in property damages especially to vehicles. Here are some tips to recover your car from being submerged in flood as well as an overview of the requirements in claiming benefits from Paramount Motor Insurance policy with acts of nature cover.

Tips to Recover Vehicle Submerged in Flood Water

  1. Protect your vehicle’s computer box or ECU (Electronic Control Unit).  Immediately disconnect the negative cable of your car battery.  This will prevent any possible short circuit.
  2. Jack up your vehicle with a car jack or bring it to higher ground by pushing.
  3. Disengage and release the parking brake. For vehicles with manual transmission, keep the transmission in 1st gear while keeping it at  "P" for automatic transmission.
  4. Take photos from both inside and outside the vehicle for documentation of the damage and of how deep it was submerged. This will be useful in determining the extent of the damage for insurance claims and/or as reference for the mechanic who will attend to your car.
  5. Give your car time to drain the water by waiting at least 24 hours before starting it.
  6. If the dashboard is submerged in water, do not at all attempt to start the engine.
  7. Check the car’s lubrication using the oil dipstick.  Should there be traces of water, do not attempt to start the engine.
  8. If the car is submerged below the centerline of the wheels, air the vehicle out.  Remove all the mats as well as the seats if possible before attempting to start the engine to ensure that all wires and electronics are dry.
  9. If completely unsure of the extent of the damage, have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic or have it towed instead.

Claiming from Your Paramount Motor Insurance Policy

For Paramount motor insurance policyowners with acts of nature cover, report any vehicle damage to our hotline numbers 0917 597 1261, 0998 844 7074 or 0917 597 9244 .  Here are the requirements in filing a claim for fast and smooth processing:

    • Original copy will be required.
  • Vehicle OR and CR
  • Driver’s license
  • Vehicle inspection report
  • Repair estimate

September 22, 2020

The Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific, Inc. or (IIAP), develops and provides sustainable well-planned educational programs and services designed to enhance professionalism, expertise, and performance among practitioners in the insurance industry.

In 1979, IIAP established the Professional Chair, a specialized fund that allows partner organizations to financially support causes aligned with their mission of elevating the field of insurance and reinsurance to higher standards through continuous research and education. Believing that education is an essential component for progress and achieving excellence, Paramount Life & General Insurance Corporation (Paramount) in partnership with IIAP has two existing professional chairs namely:

May, 2014

65th Anniversary Employees with Umbrellas

Paramount Life & General Insurance Corporation, one of the leading providers of Life, Non-Life & OFW insurance in the Philippines, marks its 65th year anniversary of being in business.

Founded by the late Daniel C. Go in 1950, the company started out in the property and casualty business as Paramount Insurance and Surety Corporation and later on acquired several other companies including Aegon Life Insurance Philippines, Manila Bankers Life Insurance, & Sony Life Philippines in order to expand its business portfolio to include the life insurance business.

From these humble beginnings grew a vibrant company that today thrives as Paramount Life & General Insurance Corporation (PLGIC). Today, with more than 500 employees and over 50 branches nationwide, Paramount has one of the most extensive sales and marketing networks in the industry.
“Paramount has revolutionized the way Filipinos are protected by providing them with products that will truly address their needs without putting too much strain on their budgets” according to George T. Tiu, President and COO.

“Achieving this milestone reminds us of the many employees, past and present, who have made our company the highly respected insurance provider that it is today.”

The anniversary celebration is supported by a variety of initiatives including an anniversary-specific campaign entitled PARAMOUNT AT 65: INITIATE, INNOVATE AND INSPIRE which showcases Paramount’s new corporate goal of fostering innovation and ingenuity in order to deliver better products and services.

Kicking off the company’s anniversary celebration was Paramount’s Summer Party held last April 17, 2015 at Chateau Royale Sports and Country Club. Shirts and all materials given away during the company outing reflect the 65th year logo. In addition, numerous raffle prizes were given away to employees as a way of thanking them for their loyalty and service to the company.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the day was the formation of the largest human PLGIC 65th Year logo which gathered more than 200 of Paramount’s employees while holding up blue, yellow and black colored umbrellas as a way to commemorate this milestone.

Alongside the 65th Year campaign, the Office of Chairman/CEO and Executive Vice Chairperson launched the Paramount X Prize, an inter-office contest that encourages employees to think about platform strategies and innovations while continuing Paramount’s client purpose: “To protect what’s important for you”.

As Paramount looks forward to the next 65 years, the same unwavering values serve as our guide: Loyalty, Integrity, Flexibility and Excellence.

Ensuring Home Security from Disasters During Long Weekends

August 22, 2024

A brief getaway from our daily routines during this upcoming long weekend is just what we need to rest and recharge. However, leaving your home unattended can be risky, especially with the unpredictability of the rainy season. It’s crucial to ensure your house is safeguarded against natural disasters while you're away. Here are some tips to prepare your home for any potential emergencies over the long weekend.

  1. Examine and Maintain Your Home: Make sure to check your house carefully before you leave in order to find and fix any vulnerable spots that may exist. Check your home for any leaks, damaged windows, or loose roof tiles that could be made worse by bad weather.
  2. Secure Windows and Doors: Double-check to ensure all windows and doors are locked to maintain security. Use extra security measures such as window locks or security bars to reinforce vulnerable areas.
  3. Plan for Weather-Related Catastrophes: Make sure your house is equipped to withstand natural disasters like floods, storms, or wildfires if you're traveling away from home. Store valuables and vital documents in waterproof containers and elevate electrical appliances in case of flooding.
  4. Clean Gutters and Drains: To avoid water damage during heavy downpours, make sure gutters and drains are free of debris. Leaks and water damage can result from blocked gutters, particularly if you aren’t at home and are unable to solve the issue immediately.
  5. Prepare Emergency Contacts: Give a dependable friend, neighbor, or family member a list of emergency contacts and other important information. This may be the phone numbers of emergency services and any relevant maintenance staff.
  6. Invest in Insurance Coverage: Obtain a home insurance policy that covers various disaster scenarios. Protect your home and belongings by ensuring you're not financially vulnerable when disaster strikes with Paramount's Fire and Allied Perils Insurance plan. For more information, visit https://plgic.ph/FireandAlliedPerils

By taking these precautions, you can make sure your house is safe from calamities while you enjoy your long weekend. Preparing ahead of time will provide you with peace of mind, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy your time away.
